The Springfield Headquarters is seeking applicants for an Economic Development Specialist position in the Member Services & Corporate Communications Division. The Economic Development Specialist provides member cooperatives with economic development assistance and expertise to support the retention and attraction of business to their communities. Responsibilities include industrial project assistance, marketing and promotion of sites and buildings, key account management assistance, financial packaging and consultation on use of incentives, collaboration with state and local agencies, project research and community development program assistance.
The Economic Development Specialist position will also be responsible for delivering other development assistance that may include project financing, grant writing, industry research, development training, rate information and marketing/promotional support as needed. This position will serve as a liaison with cooperative member systems, business and industrial organizations, government agencies and educational institutions to build and maintain awareness of cooperative member systems and their economic and community development activities. This position will involve, on average, approximately 20 percent travel.
Qualified applicants will have a Bachelor’s degree in business administration, marketing, or related field. Five or more years experience with traditional economic and community development activities like business recruitment, expansion, retention and marketing is required. Current working knowledge of the cooperative business model is required. Electric utility background is preferred. Certified Economic Developer credential is required, or could be attained after hire. Successful candidates will demonstrate problem solving and relationship building skills as well as a strong work ethic and excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
