(Lawton-Fort Sill, OK) High quality job creation in the Lawton-Fort Sill region is the main focus of the new Lawton-Fort Sill Economic Development Corporation (Lawton-Fort Sill EDC). The Lawton-Fort Sill EDC conducted its corporate roll-out last week, introducing its new name, the new missions and the new philosophies. Eight economic development initiatives were presented that feature new regional strategies.
“The new Board of Directors has worked very hard in establishing new initiatives and new economic development philosophies that will enhance the lifestyles and job opportunities of our residents,” said Phil Kennedy, Lawton-Fort Sill Economic Development Corporation Chairman. One of the key strategies presented is to leverage Lawton’s regional assets, like Fort Sill and its surrounding military installations, to further expand the aerospace and defense industry footprint in southwest Oklahoma.
During the event, Barry Albrecht, CEO/President of the Lawton-Fort Sill Economic Development Corporation unveiled three new community tools that focus on enhancing the community image and will be utilized to attract new business and industry to the region. These tools include an annual economic research report called the 2012 Lawton-Fort Sill Economic Review. Also unveiled were the new Lawton-Fort Sill Economic Development website (www.lawtonedc.com) and a new four minute community video that will be used by community organizations and local industry.
“Lawton Oklahoma is a region, not just a city,” said Albrecht. “Lawton serves as an employment and retail center for numerous cities and counties. The Lawton-Fort Sill Economic Development Corporation will continue to design and implement new tools that truly reflect our economic profile and enhances community image and global exposure.”
Lawton-Fort Sill EDC’s mission is to attract new capital investment, retain and expand existing business and industry with a focus on high-technology industries to ensure economic growth by recruiting and creating high-quality jobs in the Lawton area.
“The new Lawton-Fort Sill EDC is structured to be a one-stop shop for economic development and will lead in implementing new and aggressive job creation efforts,” said Mayor Fred Fitch, City of Lawton. “The Board of Directors was strategically designed to have representation of the entire economic development community.”
The Lawton-Fort Sill Economic Development Corporation is a 501 (c) 6 not-for-profit corporation supported and led by the community’s business leaders, city government, and top academic institutions. The Lawton-Fort Sill EDC collaborates closely with other entities throughout the southwest OK/Lawton region and the state to ensure a globally competitive and sustainable regional economy through quality job creation.
